Thank You NAMI WALKS 2011 Supporters & Sponsors!
By contributing money, making a pledge to one of our walk teams, forming your own walk team, donating product, or simply by joining us to walk, you have supportied research and local services to those affected with this unpredictable disease.
We each have a personal stake in this particular event. Not only does the walk benefit our loved ones living with severe mental illness take steps towards recovery, the walk raises awareness and helps to end stigma for the 25 million Americans diagnosed with biological brain disorders. Some symptoms may include withdrawal from society, confused or delusional thinking, hallucinations, obsessive compulsive, manic or depressed episodes. Even simple everyday living skills become increasingly difficult. Everyone is affected differently.
Our goal is to raise at least $25,000 this year. Please help us reach that goal with your pledge or participation. There is still time to support us with a donation.
All donations are tax deductible and go directly to programs and services.
To make a donation to NAMI WALKS, please make your check payable to NAMI SFV – National Alliance on Mental Illness San Fernando Valley – NAMI WALKS – and mail to NAMI SFV 14545 Sherman Circle Van Nuys CA 91345. Any amount helps NAMI SFV serve families and individuals in our community.
NAMI WALKS provides funding for free classes, support groups, expert speaker sessions and important resources. Our signature NAMI classes include Family to Family, BASICS, Peer to Peer. Our programs include Support Groups, Expert Speaker Series and In Our Own Voice programs. Our directory of resources are available through our newsletters, on our NAMI SFV website, in our lending library, and through our NAMI SFV community outreach.

Where: Shakey's Pizza Restaurant And thank you to our donors including: REMO |
Your 2011 NAMIWALKS committee* worked hard to create a successful fundraiser! We estimate we raised at least $625 which includes $425 in raffle ticket sales and a preliminary estimate of $200 from our share of food purchases. Each committee member made a significant contribution that made this event a HUGE success from both a fundraising and awareness standpoint. Plus it was a lot of FUN for everyone who attended.
* Al, Hilary, Leonard, Lynn, Mary, Sandy, Tina... It has been an honor to work with each of you. Thank you, Beth Arnold

Bring your friends and families and WALK to raise money and awareness to help our NAMI families and mentally ill loved ones!!!
Join us and be a part of this very special morning for NAMI-Los Angeles County! Last year we raised almost $300,000 with over 1,000 walkers participating. We are targeting to raise even more in 2009 and will use the funds to help our NAMI families and loved ones through support, education, outreach and eliminating the stigma that continues to hurt those with mental illness.
To sign up for the walk there is a two-step process. First, click here (nami.org) and create a free NAMI account (no need to do this if you are already a NAMI member). Then go to nami.org/walks to register as an individual walker or create your own Walk Team. BE SURE TO DESIGNATE "NAMI-San Fernando Valley" IN THE DROP DOWN MENU SO THAT YOUR LOCAL AREA NAMI WILL RECEIVE YOUR DONATIONS. Your friends and family can donate by logging onto the personal website you will create. Even if you cannot participate in the actual walk you are welcome to participate as a Web Walker on-line. Just click here. The funds you raise will go towards helping San Fernando Valley families and their mentally ill loved ones.
The Event
NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Walks for the Mind of America is a day that seems almost magical, with over a thousand people coming together to learn more about mental illness, develop stronger ties with one another, and celebrate a beautiful day with friends and loved ones. The NAMI WALKS web-site is up for a few months prior to the walk but this is an annual event that will be held each year. Check back on the nami.org web-site if you do not see the walk web-site.
The Reason
One in five people will be treated for a biological brain disorder such as major depression, bi-polar, schizophrenia, OCD, and addiction at some point in life. NAMI Walks for the Mind of America, the annual NAMI Los Angeles County fundraiser, is a big part of the solution. Financial support that NAMI receives from the Walk is used for its programs that increase mental health recovery and reduce mental illness stigma.
