Expert Speaker Series : Laura's Law implementation in Los Angeles County Brian Jacobs speaks on Laura's Law implementation in Los Angeles County. Join us to learn: What is Laura's Law How can it help my loved one with mental illness? What does implementation look like? Who has the answers? After the tragic death of Kelly Thomas became national and international news earlier this year, subsequent news articles detailed all too familiar attempts by the Thomas family to get treatment for their ill son and failures of the mental health system that led to Kelly Thomas’ life and death on the streets of Fullerton. Laura’s Law was enacted to prevent the tragic consequences of untreated mental illness for people like Kelly Thomas, people who revolve through multiple, costly forced hospitalizations, jailing and/or suicide. Learn how we can help stop the disastrous cycle of revolving door forced hospitalizations and/or jailing, victimization and worse for people with severe and persistent mental illness in San Fernando Valley NAMI SFV Expert Speaker Series brings mental health and related service providers to you for informative, free evenings on the third Wednesday of each month. Join us at 14545 Sherman Circle Van Nuys. Free and open to the public. Refreshments served, NAMI SFV Lending Library, Bake Sale and NAMI SFV resources and community of families and friends of individuals living with severe mental illness.
